–Special Notes/Our Thoughts: Jon needed an upgrade in light AND looks for his rig. We started with OEM chrome housings and we went to work slicing them open. We then coated all the internal chrome spots in a satin metallic black finish. The amber reflectors were smoke tinted to complete the look. Less chrome, BIG light output and sharp looks. Win! This setup was a complete OEM LED conversion package from his standard halogen setup.

–Special Notes/Our Thoughts: Jason needed dark looks with a conversion for his truck. We started with brand new OEM Ford housings, we sliced them open and then coated the internals in a satin black. The amber reflector was smoke tinted and these are SHARP factory OEM LED QUAD lights! Win!

Are LED Headlights Legal? BLACKFLAMECUSTOMS.com on LED Upgrades & Retrofits

The short answer…it depends! If you’re vehicle has different sub models (ie. Ford Super Duty F250 XLT or Platinum) that can COME equipped with LED headlights from the factory, then yes, they are perfectly legal and DOT approved. This would be considered an OEM LED conversion, one of which we deal with a lot.

What about a vehicle that ONLY has halogen headlights in it’s models lineup? Technically speaking, no. However, the lighting industry today has many DOT approved aftermarket options. The primary one we tend to focus on is retrofitting if you’re vehicle does NOT have proper projectors to control light output (HID or LED). This allows the new LED system to properly output light on the road without causing glare, eye fatigue or dangerously blinding oncoming drivers.
